"Wrestling with an Angel" Cruciformpress.com

This has been a whirlwind of a week anticipating the release of the book and getting ready to travel to Minneapolis to the Desiring God National Conference. I originally thought that the book would be released on Oct 1, but found out just a couple days ago that the release date had been pushed back to Nov 1 to accommodate the release of the first book by Cruciform Press, "Sexual Detox" by Tim Challies. I was a little disappointed at first, until I realized that God's schedule is absolutely perfect and it is an honor to take a back seat to a man like Challies.

Then, I woke up this morning to a tweet from Justin Taylor from The Gospel Coalition http://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/justintaylor/ informing me that "Wrestling with an Angel" is now available. And if you want a discounted price and an ebook (audiobook coming soon), check out the publisher's new website at Cruciformpress.com http://bit.ly/dwsrl4

So, if you have been blessed in any way from this blog through the life of my son Jake, please consider checking out the first chapter of the book and possibly ordering a copy. Also, the book is saturated with grace and soaked with the gospel, so consider getting a copy for a struggling friend who may be in need of seeing their darkest moments through the lens of God's amazing grace.

Thank you all for making this book possible.

Greg and Jake

  2. From what I understand, there will be a few advance copies for sale at the Desiring God National Conference.

  3. I've ordered three copies:

One for a blog give away, one as an official lend to a friend copy, and one as a "you'll have to rip this from my cold dead fingers to get your hands on it" copy ;)

Praying this book is an overwhelming success and one of many books to come!

  4. I just finished the book. Thanks for writing this Greg. I am also the father of a special needs son and I cryed several times while reading, remembering similar instances in my journey. God certainly teaches us humility.
I'll be praying for you, your family and Jake.

  8. I got a copy and I could not put it down. Thank you for writing such a compelling and honest book about finding the grace of God in the midst of loving and raising an exceptional child.

My wife and I have been blessed with two autistic children. And just as I have been blessed by your blog, I also laughed and cried as I read and was able to relate to the stories in your book; at times, I said "Amen" to the affirmations of God's grace and the lessons learned; at other times, I was encouraged, edified and instructed by other insights into God's grace that I had not considered before.

Blessings to you and Kim and Jake and your entire family.

  9. Leo,

Thank you so much for the kind words. And thank you for the great review on the Cruciform Press web page. It ministered to me greatly.

  10. I just got your book yesterday. I have a 5 year old son, Caleb, he was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. He is absolutely amazing and having him has changed me in ways I couldn't have imagined. I've only read 40 pages of your book but it has really spoken to me already. I look forward to finishing it.

  11. I've been the proud recipient of God's divine providence and so kindly permit me share a really long story with you. You see, if it wasn't for Tim's "Sexual Detox", I would have never read your book.

I ordered Tim's book recently and Bob from Cruciform Press sent me a complimentary ebook copy of your book. I determined that I wasn't interested in the burden of guilt that I predicted would come with reading about the much greater sufferings of a fellow Christian. Accordingly, I read Tim's book and ungraciously ignored yours.

A short time later, I fell ill with a cold. it's been nearly a week now, and the cold is still with me. Whilst recuperating at home with unfettered internet access, I've come across positive reviews about your book. After a while, I recall Bob's complimentary ebook copy he sent me. I was about to ask Bob whether he sent me a copy or not when I realised the ebook had been attached his email to me the whole time. I hastily scrap my foolish enquiry to Bob and downloaded the ebook and started reading.

I cried. I smiled. My heart was broken over and over. Call me selfish and I'll be the first to agree with you wholeheartedly, because this book is just what I needed.

I don't have a son with disabilities. I don't have a son. I don't have a wife. I suspect this combined set of circumstances would make me a member of that group of folks who'd be somewhat less than likely to consider your book. Yet this group could be also quite rightly named "The groups of folks who need to read 'Wrestling with an Angel' immediately after reading 'Sexual Detox'".

Thank you for sharing your story. I come from Australia. This means two things. I suffer from the Tall Poppy Syndrome which means I'm shamefully prone to cutting people down. It also means I'm shamefully averse to praise, either in receiving or giving. So let me go against the grain a little bit for a moment. You remind me of James 5:17. I could never picture myself next to Elijah, yet I thank God that I could somehow picture myself next to you. While I'd be a bit tempted to ask for your autograph, I still see you broken and put back together, and so I'd still dare to stand side-by-side with you.

My prayer is that I might somehow imitate you and bring God's grace to others just as you continue bringing God's grace to me.

  12. For what little it's worth, I also pray that my order for paper copies arrives before Christmas. I confess I left my order a little late.

  13. Hi Greg,
I live in Huntington and was excited to buy your book a few months ago after I saw the article in the Herald Dispatch. I've been to Empire Books a few times since then looking for it and they have been sold out. Today, I got my hands on my boss's copy and could not put it down. I will be ordering my own now that I have the information. I must tell you that your book both inspired me and humbled me to the point of shame. My son has minor special needs. He probably has autism or at the very least Asperger's syndrome. He is in the middle of being diagnosed right now. My husband and I often feel so defeated because of our son's problems with communication. After reading your book, I realize that God shows us grace through our son every day. I just have to recognize it and not dwell on the bad. Thank you so much for sharing your story. It is truly inspirational and I will never forget it. Blessings to you, Kim, and your whole family!
    Angie
